A $10.00 contribution by each of the approximately 66,000 Michigan Knights would give the Michigan Charities Fund $ 660,000.00 to distribute. Just think of the good that we could do if each member gave his fair share.

We need your support! Please include $10.00 or more with your dues payment or send a separate check payable to your local council. (Write “10” for Charities Program) on the memo line. Your Financial Secretary will send the total ”10” for Charities Program contributions to the State Secretary.

Working together as a team of 66,000 we can be a tremendous force of support for those who truly need us. Please do what you can. We thank you in advance for your help to help others. Vivat Jesus!

Attention Worthy Financial Secretaries,

As the council, annual dues billing season approaches please insure the list of charities which receive support from the State Council is distributed with your billings.

For those councils that bill manually by hard mail it is easy. Just insert the slip listing the charities provided by the State through your District Deputy into the billing envelope.

For councils that bill electronically we need you to make an extra step and either mail the slip separately or add as an e-mail attachment to your members.

A copy of the slip which you may attach to your e-billing is found on our website under Resources/Forms/Council Forms and is linked here.

The promotion of the “10” for Charities Program by distribution of the slip is essential for the funding of our charities program.

Thanks for your cooperation.  Any questions may be directed to:

Antonio G. Vittorini Memorial Pasta Dinner for Vocations

Published by: Gary Merritt On: 01/07/2019 Under: All Articles (262 Hits)

Annually, the Knights of Columbus at St. Therese of Lisieux in Shelby Twp. host and sponsor a fundraising pasta dinner with proceeds helping seminarians to continue their education in their journey toward ordination to the priesthood.  Last year, in January just before our annual pasta dinner we lost our beloved State Secretary of the Michigan Knights of Columbus, Antonio Vittorini.  We were proud to be the home council of Tony.  He had a very special place in his heart for seminarians, especially those from Sacred Heart Major Seminary right here in Detroit.  He helped at many of the pasta dinners by supervising the creation of the pasta sauce – his own recipe.  Beginning this year, all pasta dinners for vocations will be known as The Antonio G. Vittorini Memorial Pasta Dinner for Vocations to honor Tony’s commitment to vocations and the seminarians.

To keep Tony’s commitment alive, The Knights of Columbus of St. Therese of Lisieux Council #11957 wish to invite all of you to this years’ ANTONIO G. VITTORINI MEMORIAL PASTA DINNER FOR VOCATIONS ON Saturday, January 26, 2019 beginning at 6:00 p.m. doors open at 5:30 p.m.  Free will donations will be accepted at the dinner.  St. Therese of Lisieux 48115 Schoenherr Shelby Twp., MI 48315.

Tables of 10 may be reserved by calling Grand Knight John Lamanna at 586-306-3178 or Deputy Grand Knight Rick Fisher at 586-215-9182

The Endowed Scholarship Fund is an agreement between the Michigan Knights of Columbus and Sacred Heart Major Seminary initiated April 5th, 2018.  The agreement specifies that the Michigan K of C jurisdiction will commit to fund the Scholarship Fund in the amount of $1,000,000.

My Brother Knights All:

Mid November, signals the start of over 400 Financial Secretaries in our jurisdiction preparing to send out dues notifications to their council membership.

Inclusive with dues notice will be a request for our 65,000 members to include a $6/member or more donation to the S.H.M.S. Endowed Scholarship Fund.

Pray fully consider a donation when you receive your dues notice.  I encourage councils to host a fund-raising project or make up the difference between total council collected

membership donations and actual member donations.

One of our members accepted the challenge and personally donated $11,000. If we all donate, we can have the Endowed Scholarship Fund fully funded in 3 years.

Council checks should be mailed to the State Secretary Walter Winkle and payable to Michigan State Knights of Columbus Charities.  Memo line:  S.H.M.S. Endowed Scholarship Fund.

Thank you for your generous donation assisting the many Seminarians who will be benefitting from the "Fund".

Christ the King Council #13360

Adoration 13360

To honor our Veterans on Saturday, November 10 from 1:00 to 2:00 in the morning, the Knights of Christ the King Council #13360 gathered at the Adoration Chapel at Christ the King in Ann Arbor.   This Veteran’s Day Weekend tradition started nearly 15 years ago and continues annually at the Knight’s regularly scheduled Adoration Hour.  All Knights present were able to intercede for our country’s military veterans, both living and dead, with a time of silent prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.      In addition, the Knights had an opportunity to pray the Rosary in memory of our Veterans.

District 44 Kalamazoo

Last year Bob Smith, Knights of Columbus District Deputy for the Kalamazoo/Portage decided that he needed to do more to recognize our local Knights for their contributions to our Church and community. With that in mind he awarded the first District 44 Knight of the Year to Gene Roberts.  This year, he is adding District Family of the Year award as well as District Knight of the Year.

In 2012, Holy Family Health Care was founded by a group of physicians to provide dignity in health care for the poor and migrant families of Southwestern Michigan. Using the teachings of the Holy Church with a mission to care for body, mind and soul.  HFHC treated over 6,000 patients last year and served over 50,000 meals to the needy of South Western Michigan.  Further, in November of 2017 HFHC partnered with Caring Network, part of the Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Kalamazoo providing prenatal healthcare as well as ultrasound services for young mothers.   The family behind this organization is Deacon Dr. Don and Theresa Bouchard, founder of HFHC and our District 44 for 17-18 Family of the Year.  Congratulations!

District 44 K Fam yr

Our recipient for District 44 Knight of the Year is no stranger when it comes to the Knights of Columbus.  At the age of 18 he joined the only council in Kalamazoo, Bishop Markevitch Council 1616 and has been a faithful Knight for 78 years, the longest seniority in the Michigan Jurisdiction. (I won’t tell you his age, but…do the math) As council member he participated in numerous council functions including his favorite, the MI Drive known as the Tootsie Roll Drive. This energetic Knight, though retired, has volunteered for the past 2 decades providing magazines and reading materials to the patients of Bronson Hospital gaining him the title of Magazine Man and our District 44 2017-2018 Knight of the Year is Bob Johnson. for 2017-2018.
